There are also two recent entries in the
Review of Biblical Literature of books on John that I do possess:
The Gospel of John: A Commentary by Craig S. Keener and
Symbolism in the Fourth Gospel: Meaning, Mystery, Community by Craig R. Koester. The two Craigs represent practically opposite poles of hermeneutical praxis: Keener searches far and wide for any literary allusions or socio-historical background that can illumine the text of John, while Koester plumbs the depths of Johannine thought in consideration of what special meaning symbols take in the Fourth Gospel. Both of them will be useful to me in my Gospel of John study.
